bags and more bags

August 17, 2007 Ghene 1 comment

I am trying to catch up on creativity absences in the previous month and all I can say is there are now quite a lot of them. And quite a variety too! I made a couple of shoppers with their own pouch, sweet tote/shoulder bags and a couple of handbags which are quite simple but I am particularly proud of.

The two shoppers are sturdy reusable shopping bags that you can carry in your bag ready to use when you suddenly decide to buy some groceries. This is a 100% recycled bag using fabrics and straps reclaimed from items I bought from the Children’s Society and Cancer Research charity shops. I am still working on more reusable shopping bags from reclaimed fabrics , so watch out for them on my shop and don’t hesitate to get one for yourself!

And above is a sweet looking tote/shoulder bag I call Izzy (Isabel) Bag. Sorry for the crap photo, I was taking this in a hurry with my cybershot, I will take a much better one very soon! I made a couple more versions of these, they look fun and really cute! Who says Fall/Winter collection to be dull and monotonous?

On other things, I finally sent my swap to my partner (in the UK). I kept making stuff for her it got so delayed.

Here is what I sent and I really hope she gets it really quickly!

Tomorrow, I will be going with the whole clan and some Flickr friends from the London Flickr Meetup group to Brighton.

Above is my itinerary, which includes the priority sites I want to see. I really hope the “predominant Sunny Intervals” said by the weather forecast to be true because it would make my first visit to Brighton quite special.

summer wait…

This week I made 6 new wristlets, they are totally cute, (wait till you see the photos) and half a dozen cube coin purses. I wanted to make some totes and flat messenger bags but I am feeling a bit too lazy at the moment. I havent even the inclination to take photos even if it means selling them! Anyway – once I got over this temporary disinterest (should be gone in a couple of days), you’ll see :D

The screens for the recycled paper project still hasn’t arrived and the monsters (aka. children) are getting very impatient. I am sure they will have loads of fun making paper :)

Next month I should have my new Mac computer. I can’t believe hubby is getting me one :D Well, I get very grumpy when my computer freezes and my grumpy situation maybe really horrible for you. Anyhow, it seems Potter Comp (name of my computer) aka Potter for short have a fan problem. It gets really hot specially if I am working on photographs and graphics. The DDRAM is 2Gigs so that should be fine. I know we can fix it by installing a new fan but seeing my Potter taken apart leaving me with my laptop is out of question. So Mac first, then fix Potter next.

I forgot to upload the photo of my RED swap package. This is just part of it and I hope my partner will like it.

This bag is made using a beautiful and soft upholstery fabric by KENZO which I bought from the Liberty shop in London. It is really gorgeous I made another for myself (experimental design though). I also made several Cube Coin Purses with this fabric and it looks really fab!  This bag will go to my mum but I will make another (or two) handbag of this design for you to buy. Like the Tweed Handbag, this boasts two front pockets which are perfect for ipod and iphone, spacious back pocket with zip closure, 1 zipped interior pocket, key fob and another interior pocket.

We went to see Transformers the movie the other day (Saturday). and it was great. If there are any bad critics about it,  I don’t care. I’ve been a fan of the cartoon series when I was a kid and have several Transformer toys instead of dolls.  The movie provides good entertainment specially if you like special effects and machines – I like both.

Here is what I received from Heather today, a lovely collection of fabrics! I know already what to do with these – bags, purse and bookcovers!

Thank you Heather!

This is what I sent for my secret partner in the US. It was sent on the 11th of May. I hope she likes it!

Trifted finds

Today, I had a stroll to main road to pass the time. The charity shops there are already open so I got inside and I am glad I did because I found this beautiful vintage fabric and it cost only a pound!

I already thought of what to do with this – make totes! I have a new design I am working on, so when I finally get it right this will be used to make the commercial versions.

I also found square scarves for a pound each and they are new! I love the colours and the texture. A couple of these will be used to accessorize handmade bags while one will go to my mum. The yellow scarf will be for personal use- it’s so gorgeous and I only have black scarves to match my outfits. These are tied/hung around my neck to keep the cold away – a la française!
